Swallow Packet Oath
I, A. B. do sincerely promise and Swear, that I will be faithfull and bear true Allegiance to His Majesty King George the Third, and him will defend to the utmost of my Power against all traitorous Conspiracies and attempts <whatsoever> which shall be made against his Person, Crown or Dignity, And I will do my utmost Endeavour to disclose (?) and make known to his Majesty and his Successors, all Treasons and <Traiterous> Conspiracies, which I shall know to be against him, or any of them, And further that my present intended Departure from America to Europe, is not with any intention or Design, (nor will I directly or indirectly in any Manner or Way whatsoever attempt) to promote, encourage, aid, abet, consort or <Countenance>, any Person or Persons whomsoever, now in Arms against his Majesty, or any of their open or secret Abettors or any Measure or Measures now pursuing or which hereafter may be pursued by any Person or Persons whomsoever against His Majesty his Crown or Dignity, but that my present intended Departure from America to Europe is merely and solely upon Matters of a private Nature, unconnected with the Disputes now Subsisting between Great Britain, and her Colonies, that I will not directly or indirectly in any manner or Way convey or communiate any secret or private Intelligence whatsoever, which now hath to my knowledge, or which shall hereafter come to my Knowledge knowledge in any wise respecting the Hostilities or measures now pursuing or which shall hereafter be pursuing or to be pursued in America against His Majesty, his Crown and Dignity, except only to His Majesty and his Ministers, and that I wll disclose and make known the same to his , or any his Principal Secretaries of State, from time to time, as soon as may be after the same come to my Knowledge And that I have delivered to His Majesty’s Deputy Post Master General in America, to be by him put into the Public Mail every Letter and Packet entrusted or delivered to my care to be carried to Europe in my said intended Voyage, and that if any other Letter ot Letters or Packet shall before my Departure or my said Voyage be received by one, or entrusted to my Care for any part of Europe, that I will deliver them also to the said Post Master General, to be also put by him into the Public Mail.

N.B. Mr. Sinclair & Mr. Feltham excepted to the above Oath so far as it might be thought to extend to their being made Prisoners and in <illegible> returning to England.– William Tryon
